We had our picnic lunch at the lake where we watched a few people fishing, although not catching anything.Īfter we left the park, we drove into Berkley Springs, but since it was Monday, most things were closed. The river off in the distance is the Potomac. Those far away mountains are in Maryland and Pennsylvania. This road is closed, November through April. The next two pictures are from the 4.5 mile drive to the top of the mountain.Īs you can see, we got off the paved road near the bottom onto a dirt road going to the top. Before we had lunch, re toured through the park, going inside it’s lodge, then driving to the Mountain Lookout. It was another beautiful WV state park less than an hour away. We found the petty colors at Cacapon Resort State Park in West Virginia, just south of Berkley Springs. We are starting to get some color around us, but because of the drought, some leaves are turning brown instead of a pretty color. On Monday, it was such a pretty and clear day, that when I got home from the grocery store, I asked my husband if he wanted to go on a picnic and look for fall color. I also traced a few of the feathers so I can gage the size as I quilt. I traced the circles because I will quilt those better if I have a guide. The stem is done with thread painting which I haven’t done before and the curves of the pumpkin are done with an eyelet stitch. I think I’ll add a double cross hatch in the background. As soon as I switch to the orange Aurifil thread, I’m going to quilt it. I’m planning on making a pillow to go on my bed with the bed runner. I could not find it on her website, just a picture of it on Instagram. To get the template of the pumpkin, I believe I had to email her and she sent it to me. As a companion to the bed runner, I’m going to be making the quilted pumpkin by Karen Miller of Redbird Quilt Co.
